D-Link launches new Wi-Fi 6 mesh gear

D-Link’s new Eagle Pro mesh routers come with faster Wi-Fi 6 and a sparkly dash of AI, reports PAT PILCHER.

D-Link has announced its new Eagle Pro AI M32 mesh routers, which deliver all the benefits of mesh networking. And in even better news they also use faster (and more sparkly) Wi-Fi 6 and a dash of AI to keep everything in tip-top condition.

The Eagle Pro AI M32 Mesh Systems can be had as either a two-pack (M32-2PK) or 3-pack (M32-3PK) system, ensuring that your entire home’s Wi-Fi dead zones get banished.

D-Link says that their M32 Mesh can deliver wireless speeds of up to a whopping 3.2Gbps and that 1024-QAM boosts throughput to devices by 25 percent.

Your mileage will vary but the general gist is that these mesh widgets are fast. D-Link also says that 160MHz contiguous channel width can give more bandwidth to individual devices, allowing more networked gadgets to go as fast as possible.

Add D-Link’s advanced parental controls and the super-handy D-Link Eagle AI mobile app (iOS/Android), and you get oodles of control over your home network. With the M32 Mesh System, a Personal AI Assistant will send you reports and watch your network. D-Link says that the M32 system will supply suggestions to keep your network humming.

The M32 is also designed to squeeze more battery life out of smart home devices and decrease overall energy consumption. Target Wake Time (TWT) examines when and how often data transfers happen, then automatically optimises them to conserve energy, saving smart home widget batteries.

The M32 system is also modular, so adding more coverage is easy if needed. Adding more Eagle Pro AI M32 nodes from apartments to large dwellings provides more wireless mesh coverage so your Wi-Fi network can grow to meet your needs.

AI-based Parental Controls provide website blocking and schedules to keep little Johnny and Joany out of mischief. Suppose the wee blighters are using their devices instead of doing homework. In that case, you can cut off their internet access at specific times.

You can also use voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This provides an intuitive way of finding out which devices are connected and what schedules have been created, checking login credentials and rebooting routers. It’s loads easier than farting about with confusing web admin console menus. Equally handily, providing internet access for guests is a doddle using the Wi-Fi Guest Zone, as is blocking any unknown devices looking to snoop on your network. On the security front, the M32 mesh system supports the WPA3 Wi-Fi security standards.

In addition to Wi-Fi 6, each mesh satellite has two Gigabit LAN ports, allowing for wired connectivity. This is useful for smart TVs, game consoles and other gear that tend to be used in a fixed location.

The Eagle Pro AI AX3200 Mesh System M32-2PK (2-pack) and M32-3PK (3-pack) will retail for $649.99 and $799.99, respectively.
