sony-unveils-the-playstation-4-2SONY HAS REVEALED PlayStation 4 pricing and a shipping date of early December.
With the Xbox One also launching, an epic console bunfight looms large.
Fully aware of this, Sony came out swinging, stating that the PlayStation 4 won’t require any online authentication to play offline games and that they will also continue to support of the used games market.
Making doubly sure they’ve got the attention of gamers globally, Sony also appears to be intent on undercutting Microsoft, pricing the Playstation 4 at a pocket pleasing NZ$649.95.
Several retailers, including Mighty Ape, already taking pre-orders.
It still remains to be seen just how Microsoft will respond, but if a console price war was to break out, the good news is that us gamers would emerge as sure-fire winners.
After much speculation, the Playstation 4 finally made its public debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.
According to Sony, much of the design was about keeping it as light and slim as possible.
Where the Playstation 3 featured a curvy form factor, the The Playstation 4 design revolves around a sharp flat look.
The console is divided up into four sections, almost looking like a high-tech stack of black building blocks.
The optical media slot power/reset buttons, power indicator and cooling vent are placed in the gap between the blocks. The Playstation 4 is also finished in matt black, giving it a distinctly Playstation look.
As would be expected with a new console launching, Sony is also talking up the initial software lineup, which will include Destiny from Bungie, Diablo III from Blizzard Entertainment, Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV from Square Enix, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag and Watch Dog from Ubisoft Entertainment, NBA 2K14 from 2K Sports, The Elder Scrolls Online from Bethesda Games Studios and Mad Max from Warner Bros. By launch time there should be 110 titles. PAT PILCHER
