Samsung Series 5 ULTRA Notebooks released

April 17, 2012

Samsung Electronics has announced a new notebook series, the Series 5 ULTRA units, which are designed to combine exceptional performance with thin and light, form factors.

The Samsung Series 5 ULTRA notebooks are powered by second-generation Intel Core i5 processors, which when combined with the ExpressCache system by Diskeeper and a powerful AMD Radeon HD graphics card deliver serious grunt.

Richard Burton, IT Sales Manager at Samsung New Zealand, says, “Based on in-depth market research and consumer surveys, we’ve developed a new type of Samsung Ultrabook. These days, consumers demand more than just a thin and light product. They also want top performance and, as digital files become larger, excellent storage too.. The Samsung Series 5 ULTRA will answer these needs.

Available in 13.3” and 14”, the Series 5 ULTRA units are able to fast boot in just 20 seconds and wake up in two seconds. They offer up to 1TB ultra storage capacity, minimising the need for users to carry a peripheral storage device with them and also offer extended battery life, delivering up to 6.4 hours of battery life on a single charge. Samsung Battery Life Plus is a true anti-aging battery technology which keeps 80 per cent of the cell’s original capacity in a life cycle lasting up to 1,500 charging cycles or three years. This ensures that the battery can last up to five times longer than other notebooks.

The Series 5 ULTRA 13” is just 17.6mm thin and weighs 1.38kg. It’s powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, has up to 8GB memory, up to 500GB storage and 16GB iSSD with ExpressCache. Consumers can also choose from a 128GB SSD or 258GB SSD as their preferred storage. The 13” model also carries a full-size HDMI port along with one USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, 4-in-1 multi SD card slot, Ethernet and a webcam.

The 14” model is equipped with Intel Core i5 processor, up to 8GB memory and 16GB iSSD with ExpressCache. Up to 1TB of storage is available along with an AMD Radeon HD7550M 1GB graphics card. An integrated Optical Disc Drive is also installed. In terms of connectivity, the 14” model offers full-size HDMI, VGA, two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, 4-in-1 multi SD card slot, Ethernet and webcam. All the above features are packed into a 20.9mm thin and 1.84kg light chassis.
