Sugden Audio boss Patrick Miller RIP

The audiophile world is mourning the loss of Patrick Miller, boss of legendary hi-fi company Sugden Audio.

Patrick Miller, managing director of legendary UK hi-fi company Sugden Audio, has passed away following a short illness, reports Sugden’s New Zealand distributor, Stephen Seque of Sole To Soul.

Stephen describes Patrick as a “lovely, generous fellow with a great dry-humoured Yorkshire wit.”

Patrick had started at Sugden in 1982 when his father acquired the company from JE Sugden, and he’s been nurturing the brand ever since.

Sugden became famous with its original 1967 A21 Class A amplifier, which it still offers in modified form today. It remains famous for high-quality, low-powered Class A amps that are handmade and concentrate on the basics of top-quality sound reproduction.

Rather than an ever-expanding portfolio of products supporting the latest whizz-bang technology, Sugden still offers a small but perfectly tailored selection of amps, including the famous A21 and its phono stage, the Sapphire series pre and power amps, the Grande monoblocks and the Masterclass series, which consists of a variety of components including power amp, preamp and digital converter.
