For several years now, Garth has been taking a trailer full of his fine speakers on an annual roadshow, having discovered that bringing speakers directly to customers in their own home creates a unique and potentially lasting relationship.
“One of the things we have discovered at Theophany is that relationship is critical in building a valuable customer base and successful business,” says Garth. “As part of this principle, we decided two years ago that rather than just retail through normal channels and never meet our clients we would through the year do demo tours where we would bring our speakers to the client to try in their own home and often with their own gear. The added bonus is we get to meet them. This change has been significant for us, not only have we sold many speakers but we have made many great friends.”
This year’s tour was planned for August/September, but that was all ruined by the Delta Covid outbreak and the subsequent lockdown. Based in the leafy, semi-rural outskirts of Christchurch, beyond the reach of Covid (touch wood) Theophany has nevertheless been unable to attend the heavily booked tour around the greater Auckland area, or gain access further north of Auckland.
Instead, from this Friday (October 8) Garth will be stopping off in towns and cities in the lower part of the North Island. At least, those that are on Level 2.
“We have demos booked in Wellington, Palmerston North, Taupo, Tauranga, Thames, and Napier,” says Garth. “We would, however, happily travel to the other side of the island and visit New Plymouth where we have a large number of clients. Currently, we’re hoping to be in Taupo on Friday, Tauranga on Saturday and then see how things go. We are doing these areas first to get them out of the way in case the Level 3 cordon moves further east and south.”
