The Man Kit by VSforMen

One of life’s annoyances is that when we blokes reach a certain age, hair grows like crazy on every part of our bodies except our heads. If I go a day or two without shaving, I end up looking like a balding version of Wurzel Gummidge.

While there are no good answers for my thinning thatch, the folks at VSforMen have come up with a solution to keep the hair on my face, neck, nose, and ears under control. This takes the form of the Man Kit, a 3-piece shaving solution that consists of a shaver, a beard and stubble trimmer and a detail trimmer.

The Man Kit box!

While I’ve long used both electric shavers and hand shavers, I have to say that a hand shave has been the only way to date that I’ve managed to get a close shave. If the Man Kit is as good as the marketing hype, it stands to not only be safer than dragging a razor blade around my face but is quicker too. I was curious to find out.

Getting ready to put the kit through its paces saw me slacking off my morning shave routine for a few days. Not only did I look even more disreputable than usual, but my face full of fuzz was itchy and irritating. My long-suffering wife hated it. I was dying to get rid of it.

The shaver is rechargeable via a bundled charger, while the beard and detail trimmer use AAA batteries.

The beard trimmer

Firing up the beard trimmer to rid me of the stubborn facial hair growth worked a treat. Its self-sharpening blades blitzed much of the long stubble on my chops and neck. Its 2 AAA batteries are showing no sign of needing to be replaced.

Following up, I used the shaver. It’s a rotary configuration. This consists of 3 flexing rotary heads. Being able to flex means the heads can match the contours of my face for a closer shave. It also has a pop-up trimmer & cord. In use, it’ll run for a full 45mins when cordless, or it can be connected via its mains charger for corded use. It cut through the fuzz effortlessly and gave a quick and smooth shave with no skin irritation or stubborn left-over whiskers still attached to my mug.

Last I tried out the detail trimmer. It’s a curious-looking beast, resembling a stubby ballpoint pen and a leprechaun’s sex toy. Its angled blade design is narrow, which makes it ideal for eliminating nose and ear hairs, neck hair and dealing with excess eyebrow foliage. Like the bead trimmer, its blades are also self-sharpening. It uses a single AAA battery.

The detail trimmer or a leprechauns sex toy?

So, were the results as good as the marketing hype? They were rather good. While I’m still of the firm belief that nothing quite matches a wet soapy hand shave, the man kit is a lot safer and doesn’t need to be supplied with new blades on an ongoing basis. The finished results were surprisingly good. With the kit, I got one of the closest shaves I’ve ever had with an electric shaver, despite the copious amounts of facial fur I’d grown (purely for testing purposes). I was also particularly pleased that there was no skin irritation or rashes after its first use, unlike many other new shavers. I also like that the kit’s supplied power brick will happily run on 110 through to 240 VAC. That, plus a bundled storage bag means you also have the makings of an ideal travel companion. Sealing the deal, the VSforMen Man Kit is priced at a very reasonable $199.99, which is what you’d pay for just one shaver from most competing brands.

If you’re an electric shaver fan and are looking for a way to up your manscaping game, the VSforMen Man Kit is an excellent option. It does what it says on the tin, and all three shavers feel solidly built. For a wallet-pleasing price, it delivers a decent shave. Based on this, it gets a well-earned 10/10
