Price Plunge On New iMac

June 19, 2014

imac_2946580bAPPLE HAS RELEASED its new iMac, and it’s a few hundred dollars cheaper than last year’s iteration.

The new entry-level iMac all-in-one desktop starts at $1549.

While its specs won’t win any awards, there are slight improvements on the previous model, 21.5-inch model, which was yesterday selling in NZ stores for around $2000.

Being hyped as the perfect educational tool rather than a super-fast professional desktop, the new iMac features a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, with Turbo Boost Speeds up to 2.7GHz, Intel HD 5000 graphics, 8GB of memory, and a 500GB hard drive. Configure-to-order options include a 1TB hard drive, a 1TB Fusion Drive, and up to 256GB of flash storage.

The new iMac also features ‘next generation’ 802.11ac Wi-Fi, two Thunderbolt ports, and four USB 3.0 ports for expandability and ‘support for high-performance peripherals.’

The new iMac is available directly from Apple, and from the usual electrical megastores.
