Is That A Camera Or A Lens?

September 7, 2013

QX100_with_XperiaZ_1-1200ONE OF THE more intriguing announcements from the Berlin trade show IFA this week was Sony’s answer to the dire drop in point and shoot camera sales, the Cyber-shot DSC-QX100, which looks like a lens and taps into the menu/control system of your smartphone.
Sony’s hype states that the camera “links with your phone via Wi-Fi to shoot fabulous photos”, features “NFC for easy one-touch connection”, and promises “better-looking pictures with high resolution sensor, optical zoom, optical steady shot and manual controls.”
While the DSC-QX100 is clearly made to be paired with Sony’s new Xperia Z1 smartphone, apparently it will work with other Android smartphones and even iPhones.
Supposedly “a dream come true for anyone who loves their smartphone, but wants photo quality that only a dedicated camera can deliver”, this Cyber-shot is definitely unique enough to be one of the IFA standouts, alongside the Samsung ‘watch’ and LG’s peculiar curved AMOLED TV panel.
