New TomTom Is Touch & Go

July 31, 2013

TT_FRONT_3D_KMCAR NAVIGATION company TomTom has announced the TomTom GO, a new GPS that, according to TomTom’s VP Asia Pacific Chris Kearney, rewrites the book on in-car satnavs.
New features of the premium TomTom GO include a “completely revamped interface that’s really intuitive, so you really know what’s going on.”
Big changes include the GO’s interactive capabilities, where you can “find a place on the map, touch and hold to see what you want… everything on the map is touchable.”
Kearney says that unlike previous models, just about everything can be done on screen, without having to go back to the menu settings, and that TomTom’s new keyboard ‘search’ has also been rendered more easy to use/find locations by giving a list of suggestions that’s sort of like predictive text on a phone. If, for instance, you’re looking for Thai restaurants, as soon as you see the venue on the map, you can tap the icon and choose it.
The TomTom GO also boasts a new rendering of 3D for the main cities of NZ, and because TomTom has doubled its satellite coverage, Kearney says the speed and accuracy will be hugely improved.
The unit can also be tethered to the Bluetooth capability of your smart phone and use its broadband to access Live Traffic and be alerted to road incidents in time to make a decision on the best route to take.
Other features include lifetime map updates, and the GO comes in two screen sizes, the GO500 (5-inch) for $349 and the GO600 (6-inch) for $399. Available now.
