Sony Announces 4K Receiver

September 24, 2012

SONY HAS ANNOUNCED the launch of the new STRDA5800ES home cinema AV receiver, which offers 4K upscaling and pass-through capabilities to match the new 84-inch 4K Bravia TV, projectors and other pending 4K displays, which have four times the resolution of 1920 x 1080 Full HD displays.

The STRDA5800ES is a 9.2 capable unit, which can power both front high speakers and surround back speakers, in addition to a standard 5.1 speaker setup. It can also virtually create front high speakers to add surround effect in the vertical direction if none are installed.

There are 9 HDMI inputs to cover the full array of sources, a dedicated Zone 2 HDMI output for use in additional rooms and the STRDA5800ES can stream movies and music direct from a laptop, tablet, smartphone, iPhone or iPad once it is connected to a home network. With a USB terminal especially dedicated to high resolution, users can also enjoy various format files such as WAV and FLAC 5.1ch.

The Sony STRDA5800ES is available in New Zealand from October at Sony Stores, online at www.sony.co.nz and selected authorised retailers. The RRP is still TBC.

  1. RRP is still TBC…
Nope, Sony no longer provide RRP’s, they believe it’s up to the retailer to do this.
I’ll be interested to see if anyone other than Sony stores choose to stock it?
