Sony announces new e-Reader

August 24, 2012

SONY’S NEW READER PRS-T2 is claimed to get users closer than ever to the authentic experience of reading a real book. The Reader PRS-T2 is designed to be slim and light and to offer a natural, intuitive eReading experience. It features a clear, paper-like 15.2 cm (6-inch) screen with super-high contrast E-Ink Pearl technology and no glare, even in bright sunshine, while the simplified home screen layout offers easy navigation to your book collection, recent reads and useful apps including Evernote and Facebook. The screen is actually a touchscreen, so users can just pinch in or out to change text size. With built-in WiFi, the Reader PRS-T2 offers consumers access to books anytime and anywhere.

New Zealand users can even access Sony’s popular and critically-acclaimed public library lending feature, so patrons with a valid library card can easily and conveniently borrow free e-books wirelessly from over 15,000 public libraries in NZ via an intuitive, simple-to-use dedicated icon on the screen.

The Reader’s enhanced contextual menu makes it quick and simple to look-up highlighted words and passages on Wikipedia or Google wherever a WiFi connection is available.

As part of Sony’s collaboration with Pottermore and the Pottermore shop (the exclusive home of the Harry Potter eBooks), the new Reader comes with a voucher that allows owners to download the first eBook in the Harry Potter series for free following purchase of the Reader.

The new Reader PRS-T2 from Sony will be available from Sony Stores, Sony Stores Online and other authorised retailers nationwide at around $229
