Canon’s announces EOS M hybrid

July 24, 2012

Canon has finally climbed aboard the hybrid camera bandwagon, the last of the major manufacturers to do so with the announcement of the EOS M.

Like most hybrids, the interchangeable lens EOS M is designed to combine a DSLR sized sensor with a compact body, in this case, without a built-in electronic viewfinder and no flash 9both kits come with a speedlight though). The EOS M will launch with two new lenses specially designed for the body – the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM standard zoom lens and the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM ultra compact pancake lens but the EOS M can use the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses via the optional Mount Adapter EF-EOS M.

Highlights include:

A Canon 18MP APS-C image sensor

Hybrid CMOS AF system.

A body that’s approximately 59% thinner and 50% lighter than the EOS 650D DSLR.

EOS accessory compatibility

DiG!C 5 Image Processor

ISO 100-12800 (expandable to 25600)

FULL HD movies using Live View

Movie Servo AF

3.0″ TFT Liquid Crystal LCD Touch Screen

Seven Creative Art Filters

Continuous smooth shooting speed of 4.3 fps

31 point AF for ultra sharp images

The EOS M will be available through Canon resellers from early October 2012 as follows:

Single IS Lens Kit (EOS M body in Black, bundled with 18-55 EF-M lens and the SpeedLite 90EX)

Pancake Twin Lens Kit (EOS M body in a choice of Black or White, bundled with 18-55 EF-M lens, 22mm EF-M pancake lens and the SpeedLite 90EX)

Pricing is TBC.
