State-of-the-art Cinema Complex For ‘The Hamiltron’

The Hoyts chain is claiming that its new complex in Hamilton, to open on August 15, is “state of the art”.
The multimillion dollar complex will be part of NZ’s biggest retail development in Te Awa at The Base.
The new cinemas will boast “full digital capacity”, 1400 seats, six screens and 3D capability. The Xtremescreen seats 450 and boasts the largest movie screen in the Waikato, 7.1 digital sound and NZ’s first 4k digital projection system.
The venue also includes an auditorium for large-screen events, conferences, 3D concerts and sporting events.
Oddly, the new cinema launches with the world premiere of Billy T: Te Movie on August 15; odd because it’s not the kind of 3D blockbuster that could show off the new theatres. Good though: the film, which goes nationwide on August 18, coincides with the 20th anniversary of the comedian and cultural icon’s premature death, and should help to put his contribution in perspective.
The film explores Billy’s life as a musician, singer, comedian, actor, writer and artist, and features digitally re-mastered footage of his performances, together with never-seen-before archival images.
