While I’d love to be able to add every five star product I review to my collection of “stuff”, space, finances and common sense just don’t allow it. Occasionally however, one of these great products fits a niche and makes its way home with me.
Pro-Ject’s Dock Box Fi (reviewed here) really impressed me with its sound quality. It also happened to be a perfect fit for my needs – sometimes I don’t want to plug a UBS cable into my laptop, I just want to dock my iPod and shuffle through my playlists. So yesterday, I put my money where my mouth is and picked up a new unit (in black of course) and it’s currently hooked up to ATC’s 150 watt SIA2-150 integrated amp. Does it sound good? Does it ever! It really suits the sonics of the ATC and what I’m hearing has absolutely no business coming from an iPod.
Another five star product that I couldn’t resist was the Well Tempered Lab Simplex turntable (reviewed here). It took a while but I eventually worked through the Simplex vs. Amadeus dilemma and placed an order for a Simplex yesterday. My Technics SL1210 had to hit the road to make way for the Simplex and I’m still torn up about that decision.
I’m also trying to figure out how to get my hands on some Vitesse Audio cables (reviewed here). I’ll just have to sell more of that “stuff” I guess. The upgrade path never ends does it?
