2011 Sony Bravia LCD TVs Released

March 14, 2011

Sony NZ has just unveiled its 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up. The new panels offer 3D TV and full IPTV connectivity, delivering instant access to online entertainment and services through BRAVIA Internet Video, Sonyโ€™s IPTV service. With a broadband internet connection, Kiwi’s can tune into over 20 Internet channels, including YouTube, Billabong and MoshCam. With BRAVIA Internet Video, viewers can also access Sonyโ€™s newly announced music streaming service, โ€œMusic Unlimited powered by Qriocityโ€ to stream tracks straight to their living rooms.

In addition to social networking and web searching abilities, the 2011 models feature Sonyโ€™s new Track ID powered by Gracenote, which analyses any selected song playing on the TV โ€“ whether itโ€™s during a movie, TV program or advertisement โ€“ and identifies it online.

Selected BRAVIAs will also feature Skype. After connecting the Sony camera and microphone (sold separately) viewers can enjoy free widescreen Skype-to-Skype video calls from the comfort of the couch (Internet connection required). Video calls can be made simultaneously while watching TV.

These new sets can also be controlled via โ€˜Media Remote Appโ€™ โ€“ a free download available from the iTunes store and the Android Marketplace. Once downloaded, the application acts as a remote control for the 2011 BRAVIA TVs and also allows viewers to browse BRAVIA Internet Video.

In selected new models, Sonyโ€™s Intelligent Peak LED Backlight uses full array local dimming for outstanding on-screen contrast while Sonyโ€™s OptiContrast Panel creates a rich and vibrant picture, even in well-lit rooms. Sonyโ€™s Motionflow XR helps reduce blur caused by quick movements and enhance image sharpness.

The BRAVIA HX and NX Series feature Sonyโ€™s improved Monolithic Design concept, which incorporates bespoke Corning Gorilla Glass. An optional display stand with an active speaker system is also available with certain HX and NX Series models.

Other developments in this yearโ€™s BRAVIA 3D line-up include panel drive enhancements that deliver quicker response time helping to reduce crosstalk, 5:5 pull down for a more realistic cinematic movie experience and built-in 3D emitters on all 3D models.

The new BRAVIA Full HD 3D models can also display 3D images taken with Sonyโ€™s new Cyber-shot cameras via USB input, increasing the 3D content users can view. The active shutter 3D glasses are now rechargeable and have a new lightweight design for a more comfortable fit and are also backwards compatible with the 2010 BRAVIA range, while the 2010 3D glasses will be compatible with the 2011 range.

The 2011 BRAVIA LCD TV line-up includes 12 Full HD 3D models and 19 Internet connected models.
