New In-ear Electrostatic Headphone Systems From Stax

November 7, 2012

STAX HAS ANNOUNCED the release of two new electrostatic headphone systems, the SRS-002 and the SRS-005S MK2.

The SRS-002 is a battery operated portable type in-ear system, and can be used by connecting direct to any portable media via 3.5mm headphone jack. It features a re-designed ear piece and is shipped with three silicone ear bud sizes. It also has a new diaphragm, which is 15 percent lighter than the one in the S-001/MK2, and is designed to offer increases in resolution and transparency.

The S-002 is powered by the newly designed SRM-002 portable driver unit, which has a newly designed power supply for extended listening on battery power without performance loss, and is switchable between Normal mode (performance) or ECO mode (battery saving). It will run for up to five hours on two AA batteries.

The SRS-005 MK2 System is made up of the SR-003 Earspeakers and SRM-252S driver unit. The SR-003 is the home audio version of S-001 MK2 earspeaker with a 5-pin plug connector suitable for any Stax driver unit or an adaptor with ‘Pro’ capability. The matching driver unit (or amplifier) features a frequency range thatโ€™s been increased to 35,000Hz and a body made with extruded aluminium.

Units will ship in December and are priced at:

SRS-002 $1200

SRS-005S MK2 $1320
