Sony Z Series Android Walkman Announced

February 22, 2012

Sony has launched the first ever Walkman powered by Android, the NWZ-Z1000 series. This new model is a far cry from my 1980’s Walkman II or even my father’s original Walkman but like its forebears, the Z Series unit is dedicated to providing an exceptional mobile audio experience. It features Sonyโ€™s innovative sound technologies and is a true mobile entertainment device with the ability to watch movies, view photos and download thousands of apps from the Android Market.

Users can enjoy a generous choice of preinstalled apps, and get more from the ever-growing range available online. Social media is taken care of so users can update their status on Facebook or Twitter, gamers can defeat the pigs in Angry Birds, while also being able to send an email, check their bank account, catch up on the latest news etc. etc.

Music, videos, games and apps come alive on the unique anti-reflective 4.3โ€ multi-touch LCD screen. Its high responsiveness combined with a speedy 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor keep things moving whether youโ€™re browsing web pages, watching movies, playing games or utilising apps.

The Walkman Z Series allows users to share content at home and on the move wirelessly via Wi-Fi and connects to other DLNA-enabled devices. Simply โ€˜throwโ€™ music, pictures and videos from the Walkman screen by โ€˜flickingโ€™ them directly to compatible TVs, PCs, or home audio system to stream media effortlessly or connect the Walkman directly to a TV via the micro HDMI out for full-size enjoyment of your videos, photos and games. Or the Z Series can connect via Bluetooth to compatible speakers, headphones, hi-fi systems or car stereos with no wire clutter.

Music lovers will have access to over 10 million songs with Sony Entertainment Network’s cloud-based Music Unlimited Service. Walkman Z Series also offers easy transfer from iTunes for Windows or Windows Media Player.

The Z Series has a unique ergonomic body design, allowing the xLOUD speaker system to offer high level of clear sound reproduction โ€“ users can now listen to their favourite tunes without a speaker dock. The Z Series also features a new S-Master MX digital amplifier which greatly reduces noise and distortion levels plus five Clear Audio Technologies โ€“ S-Master MX, Clear Bass, Clear Stereo, DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), and EX headphones.

Available in 16GB and 32GB capacities, the new Walkman Z1000 Mobile Entertainment Player will be available in New Zealand from beginning of April 2012 through Sony Stores and sony.co.nz with an RRP of $359.95 (16GB) and $429.95 (32GB)
