WORRIED that you’ll end up in the wrong bar during the RWC, surrounded by your team’s foes? Or do you want to locate the celebrations (or commiserations) with your team’s fans and supporters?
Heineken has just launched a smartphone app that’ll enable you to find your rugby posse in a jiffy. It uses the GPS function on your phone (Apple, Android and Windows smartphones are supported), and once you’ve entered your details you can search for bars, or even locate where fans who have the app switched on. Adding to the smartphone fun is a ‘RWC 2011 INFO’ sub-menu showing all fixtures, results and each pool table.
This italicised extract is from the official press release:
“The ‘Bar Finder’ uses GPS to locate where fans are in relation to Official Rugby World Cup 2011 bars, providing info on the bar and how to get there, fast. On arrival app users are encouraged to ‘Check In’. Facebook is included in the app if you want to let your mates know where you are celebrating (or hopefully not commiserating).
Your team affiliation and location is used by the ‘Fan Finder’ to search for other fans, which means that you can cheer on your team with people who are on the same wavelength, or avoid your arch rivals!
Additional features include a game element that challenges fans to answer general RWC trivia questions relevant to the match being played at the time. There is a RWC 2011 information centre to find match schedules, pool standings and results, so you are kept up to date while you are out and about.
Safety is a priority so at the end of the night ‘Your Heineken Passport’ then gives you details on how to get home safely.
But wait, there’s more. The more you make use of ‘Your Heineken Passport’ the more chances you have to win two tickets to the RWC 2011 Final with full Heineken hospitality. Every time you check in or get the correct answers to a raft of rugby trivia, you are rewarded with a virtual bottle cap. Five bottle caps mean one entry into the draw to be able to cheer on the finalists on October 23, courtesy of Heineken.”
‘Your Heineken Passport’ is available for free download from the Android Market and the iTunes Store or you can simply text โPASSPORTโ to 9090.
Alternatively you can visit www.heineken.com/nz and you’ll be able to download it from the site.
There are so many options for you footy fans to download this fab app for nix, you’ll need a damn good excuse for ending up in the wrong bar during the RWC!
I’m guessing it only tells you bars that serve Heineken. How….useful.
Does that sarcasm come across strongly enough?
It more than likely does Tony. Still, it could be worse – “Your DB Draught Passport” for instance…
Wouldn’t it be preferable to support a Kiwi beer during the RWC?
