Gary SteelEPSON TODAY ANNOUNCED two ranges of 3D 1080p home theatre projectors.
The big news is that each range (that’s both the range geared towards the family home, and the more serious range for custom installation) has a model equipped with wireless connectivity, enabling connections to Blu-ray players, game consoles and set-top boxes sans cables. Brilliant!
Epson is trumpeting is 480Hz Active Shutter system (as opposed to the slower 240Hz system) which is supposed to maintain the 3D image brightness and picture quality by minimising the blackout time (cross talk) of 3D glasses.
The projectors also, of course, claim exceptional quality 2D images.
The family home viewing range includes the EH-TW5900 (RRP $2999) and the EH-TW6000W (RRP $3799) with WirelessHD connectivity. This range has light output up to 2200 lumens and contrast ratios up to 40,000:1. Both projectors have two 10W speakers to deliver immediate sound from all sources, horizontal and vertical keystone correction up to 30 degrees with a horizontal slide keystone correction allowing the project to be offset from centre so players can stand in front of the screen when playing console games, two HDMI ports, and the EH-TW6000W comes with two pairs of 3D glasses.
The custom install range includes the EH-TW8000 with light output of 2400 lumens and contrast ratio of 200,000:1.
Epson has also introduced a newly developed LCD panel for its 3LCD light engine in both ranges, the D9 C2 Fine panel with an aperture ratio of 65%, and a higher power 230W version of Epson’s patented E-TORL lamp. The result is a claimed dynamic contrast ratio of 200,000:1 (TW8000) for incredible black levels with a clear, clean picture and viewing on larger screens and in a range of ambient light conditions.
The WirelessHD works by connecting its transmitter to a source device via an HDMI cable, and can speak directly with any other device that is Wireless certified.
