Record Store Day This Weekend

For the moment at least, we’ve still got specialist record stores and for all their idiosyncrasies, they’re a treasure that will be sorely missed when the only way to buy music is to “please enter your credit card details” on some mega-corporate website.

Saturday the 16th of April is Independent Record Store Day, so get down to your local and buy something while you still can.

For those of us in the big smoke, Real Groovy Auckland will be putting out the red carpet:

Special guest DJs will be spinning their favourite tracks on vinyl.

There will also be major prize draws including a full Cambridge Audio/Dual/Mordaunt Short system worth $3,200, A Kiwi RCM (record cleaning machine), headphones, book packs, CD packs, clothing and more.

Free passes to the Real Groovy After Party and NZ Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal Gig at The Studio (R18) from 7.30pm will be given out in store with every purchase.

Other entertainment includes free food and drink giveaways and music face painting so you can look just like KISS or Michael Jackson if that’s your thing.

Best of all, exclusive vinyl releases will be available from Adele, Beach Boys, Cults, Daft Punk, Beth Ditto, Michael Jackson, Kings Of Leon, Lady Gaga, Machine Head, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Anberlin, Black Angels, Foo Fighters, Deftones, Gorillaz, Hollywood Dead, Mastodon, Duff McKagan, New York Dolls, Tom Petty, Robbie Robertson, Pearl Jam, Kate Bush, Bob Dylan, Menzingers, Pink Floyd, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Fleet Foxes, Grinderman, Rise Against – these are only available in the Auckland store and are subject to availability, so get in early.

Events will also be on at the Wellington store as well as at:
